Hometown Hero Returns to Bayport

A look at US Air Force Capt. Matthew Lohmer's arrival home from his deployment in Afghanistan.

Capt. Matthew Lohmer of the US Air Force returned home Friday morning after a seven month deployment at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.

Lohmer was greeted in the terminal of MacArthur Airport by his wife Emily, members of his family, friends and Islip Town Deputy Supervisor Gene Parrington, the town liason for the Hometown Heroes Welcome Program.

Parrington presented Lohmer with an honorary citation from the Islip Town Board as members of the fraternal order of the police saluted him with flags.

Patriot Guard Riders on motorcycles escorted Lohmer and his family home to Barrett Avenue in Bayport, while the Bayport and Blue Point Fire Dept. lined the street saluting the local hero.
