Police: Bayport Man High on Drugs Crashed Into Sayville Home

Driver to be arraigned Sunday; home residents not injured by crash.

A Bayport man is facing a DUI charge after police say he crashed into a Broadway Avenue, Sayville home early Saturday morning and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court today.

According to Suffolk Police 33-year-old Cory Schaetzle lost control of his 2010 Chevy Malibu while heading south at about 3:15 a.m., struck an electrical pole and then hit southwest corner of a home at 145 Broadway Avenue.

Homeowner Lisa Romard said she was sleeping and woke at the sound of the crash, which she described as a tremendous boom that shook the house, according to WCBS 880.

Suffolk Police said no one in the home was injured by the crash. 

Schaetzle was taken to Southside Hospital via ambulance and treated for minor injuries, according to police.
