Memorial Service Today for B-BP Teacher Doug Monsell

Beloved educator will be buried at St. Ann's Cemetery following chapel service.

A chapel service for Bayport-Blue Point teacher Doug Monsell will be held today, Saturday, at 12:30 p.m. at Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home at 245 Montauk Highway, in West  Sayville. interment following at St. Ann's Cemetery in Sayville. Monsell, a business teacher and high school golf coach, was a well-liked educator who lost his fight against liver disease on Wednesday morning.

Funeral Services Today for Longtime Bayport FD Volunteer

Stanley E. Gillette, 88, was an active member of the Bayport Fire Department for 71 years.

Funeral services will be held today for lifelong Bayport resident Stanley E. Gillette, Sr. who passed away Monday and had been a volunteer firefighter for the Bayport Fire Department for 71 years. The 88-year-old Gillette served as chief and Commissioner of the Bayport Fire District; served in the US Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and was a member of the American Legion, Smith Weaver Post in Sayville. He is survived by his wife, Gloria, his two children; Lee and his wife Bonnie of Bayport and Wendy Meyer and her husband Gregg of Texas, as well as his five grandchildren; Jeff, Jill, LJ, Jamie and Emma, and his five great-grandchildren. Visitation is 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Bayport-Blue Point Funeral …

Wake visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.. A chapel service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday with interment following at St. Ann's Cemetery in Sayville. Monsell, a business teacher and high school golf coach, was a well-liked educator who lost his fight against liver disease on Wednesday morning.

B-BP Business Teacher Loses Battle Against Liver Disease

Doug Monsell, a well liked educator, passed Wednesday morning.

Bayport-Blue Point business teacher Doug Monsell lost a valiant battle against liver disease Wednesday morning. The well-liked 47-year-old educator is being remembered by school leaders and friends as an enthusiastic teacher who truly enjoyed his work and helping his students achieve, and as a good man and father. He was a graduate of Bayport-Blue Point schools. He was an avid sports fan of the Mets, Jets and Rangers and often worked security for district football and basketball games. Monsell was diagnosed two months ago and was being treated at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. He had been awaiting an organ transplant but went into organ failure on Tuesday. Wake to be held Friday evening for 24-year-old Bayport man hit by a train last week.

Editor's note: Matthew Omans is the man who was struck and killed by a train in Bayport last week. The below obituary is courtesy of the Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home. Matthew P. Omans, 24, of Bayport, LI, died suddenly on Friday, March 9, 2012.  Matthew graduated from Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree (2010) in applied economics and management-entrepreneurship from Cornell University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Most recently, Matthew was living in Providence, Rhode Island where he worked as an account manager with AT&T Business Services. Beloved Bayport resident and Sayville Public Schools teacher Joan Evelyn Holl passed away on Nov. 12. She is remembered as cherished wife of the late Herbert. Loving mother of Karen Pino, Ellen Pitts, and Susan Hammer. Devoted grandmother of seven and great grandmother of one. Reposing Nov. 16, 2 p.m.-4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9:30 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home, 245 Main St., West Sayville. Church service Nov. 17, 10 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Patchogue.
