A Day at the Races, Big Bad Musical on Tap This Weekend

Here's a look at fun events happening in and around town.

The frigid weather this week likely kept more than a few residents hunkered down at home, enjoying the fireplace or just embracing the couch and a comforter.

But as warmer temps are likely to hit Friday, this weekend is a great time to get out and do something fun.

Get to the Races

A Day at the Races fundraising event, geared to the whole family, will be held Sunday, Jan. 12 at 400 South Broadway, in Lindenhurst. The event, which starts at 1 p.m., will benefit the Mercy Inn Soup Kitchen. Post time is 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for child ahead of time, tickets at the door are an additional $5. Take the Family to the Theatre

The Tilles Center is presenting “The Monster Who Ate My Peas,” a musical that tells the story of a young boy who refuses to eat his peas until he find the help of a monster. It’s a great family show as it’s recommended for those five years and older. Showtimes are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 11. The center is located at 720 Northern Blvd, Greenvale. Looking to Keep That Fitness Resolution?

There is a free zumba class at the Kings Park Dance Center on Friday night starting at 7:30 p.m. The center is located in the heart of Kings Park Village, next to Main Street Pizza. For more information call 631-269-0751.

A Big Bad Musical

The Elwood Public Library is hosting its 10th anniversary family event, The Big Bad Musical, on Jan. 11 starting at 2 p.m. The library is located at 1929 Jericho Turnpike, Elwood.

Watch what happens with the arrival of Doc Apocalypse and the "end of the world" in this hilarious new comedy. The show runs from Jan. 17 through Jan. 25. Tickets are $15.
