The official countdown to Halloween is on and to help make sure you don’t miss any fun events, programs and important meetings this week Patch offers up this week’s agenda.

Columbus Day Holiday: Schools are closed, as are town governments.

Tuesday, Oct. 15

Microsoft Word Part 1
7 p.m. 
Sayville Library 
This class is for the beginner providing a basic introduction to Microsoft Word.  Patrons will learn to create, save, edit and change the font type.  Prerequisite: A good working knowledge of how to use a mouse.

Going Batty

Join Susan Sears for a fun and informative program. Life on the “Night Side” – What’s life like when you hang (and fly!) around after dark? In this program children will play games, listen to a story and make a bat to take home. 

Minecraft

Minecraft is a game about breaking and placing blocks. At first, build structures to protect against nocturnal monsters, but as the game grows players can work together to create wonderful, imaginative things.

Parent Café Toilet Learning

Parents/Caregivers only. Join Certified School Psychologist Roslyn Newell at the Parent Café. Potty training your child? This workshop will discuss signs of readiness and offer guidelines to successful toilet training.

The Rise and Fall of the Blue Point Oyster
Jeff Kassner will explain how the Great South Bay came to be one of the most important oyster areas.

Long Island Witchcraft

The most famous American witch hunt began in 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts. Yet, more than three decades prior, Long Island had its very own witchcraft trial: the Trial of Goody Garlick. Accusations of flying on poles and cavorting with the devil ran rampant in the colonies during the 17th century and led to hundreds of accusations of witchcraft. Join Tara Rider for this informative and interesting discussion. This program is open to teens and adults!

Microsoft Word Part 2
This class is for the more experienced user.  Patrons will learn how to cut and paste, copy and paste.

Suffolk County Farm Animal Experience

For children from 2 through 5 years (not yet in kindergarten) with a parent/caregiver. Meet us at the Suffolk County Farm. Enjoy a wagon ride around the farm, meet the animals that live there and then have fun picking just the right pumpkin in the pumpkin patch to take home.

Power Point 2010: Beginner

This class is for the more experienced user. Patrons will learn basic functions of this program, including how to create a Power Point presentation by making slides, inputting data and pictures. Prerequisite: A good working knowledge of how to use a mouse and Microsoft Word. 

Friday, Oct. 18

Mr. Mouse’s Orange Show

Children preschool through early elementary. Katie Polk is back with Mr. Mouse and his puppet friends. Everyone is orange, except for Mr. Mouse. What will he do? Find out at this fun family program.
