Week in Review

This week Patch brought you news on fundraisers, arrests, incidents, sports recognitions, antiques, history and more area happenings.

As usual, it was a busy week, and we understand if you haven't had time to check up on area news. Here's a quick look at what happened this week in Bayport-Blue Point for those of you who missed it.

Sunday, we posted about Islip Town's recognition of Bayport-Blue Point High School's Varsity Boys Track team, previewed Bayport Heritage Association's Sunset Cruise and told you who was selling what in Bayport and Blue Point.

Monday began with the weekly tide table, including sunrise and sunset times. On that note, who else is dreading having fewer hours of daylight? We covered a fundraiser for park improvement and profiled a musical performance. Also, Bayport and Blue Point had the chance to read up on the history of one of the oldest buildings in the area through this article.

On  Tuesday, Patch reached a milestone: we celebrated the launch of the 100th Patch site and took a look back at the two weeks (now, three) since Bayport-Blue Point Patch went live. We posted the weekly crime report, advising residents that three arrests and five incidents were reported in the area. In his Patch column, Congressional candidate, Bayport resident and businessowner John Gomez discussed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's recent comment regarding the link between one's ethnicity and political party. Patch also chronicled a performance by legendary musician David Amram.

Wednesday, Patch delivered the news on the recent audit of Islip Town. We posted pictures of a car wash fundraiser, and a new columnist joined Bayport-Blue Point Patch.

Thursday, Patch presented an article reporting on the meeting of the Islip Town Board, during which they banned the use of pesticides at local parks, and discussed other town practices and policies. The "Avid Antiquer" explored Bayport's longstanding antiques business, Country Junque. Readers could even experience a boat ride on the Great South Bay through a photo-tour of Bayport Heritage Association's Sunset Cruise.

The weekend Open Houses schedule was posted Friday morning; it included eight open house events. There were numerous events going on in the area this weekend, which Patch informed residents of through the Weekend Guide. A Bayport couple even offered up their home for a Hospice Care Network fundraiser: check back this week for coverage of the event.

Looking forward to Bradstock? We previewed the event for you on Saturday. On Monday, Brookhaven Town Planning Board will hold a public hearing of Blue Restaurant's application, read about what the restaurant is proposing.
