Teacher, Student Organize Charity Performance
Local student performs at a fundraiser benefiting East-End animal charity.
Bayport-Blue Point student Sean Gray, along with his former music teacher Margaret Carton, put on a cabaret show Feast for Felines dinner last week.
They were accompanied by Gray’s musical friends Katy Apostolico and Lucas Dean.
The event was a fundraiser dinner for (spray, alter, and vaccinate every stray) which is an East End charity dedicated to helping stray cats.

Carton was asked by Virginia Scudder, the wife of James Scudder who is also a music teacher in Bayport-Blue Point School District, to donate her time by performing at the fundraiser. As she planned the entertainment for the evening, she immediately called Gray because, “Sean is one of the most talented kids I have ever had in class and he has a big heart."
In September, Gray will be a ninth grader at Bayport-Blue Point High School. He does a lot of performing on his own and works with CM Performing Arts Center. From his musical connections he was able to enlist the help of his two friends to put on the show.

The group of four singers serenaded the 100 guests for more than an hour at the event, which raised $4,000. “Seasons of Love” from RENT concluded their show.
Carton is proud of her students.
“They did such a fabulous job," she said. The audience loved it and commented that they felt like they were at a dinner theater or a Broadway show. They were surprised by how talented the kids were.
"It is not often that kids give up their free time to volunteer for community service – it was so nice that they did."
