Maritime Museum Honors Remmer Family at Trustees Dinner

Local restaurant is making unique sail available to more water lovers.

The Long Island Maritime Museum honored The Remmer family, proprietors of The Snapper Inn, at its eighth annual trustees’ dinner.

The event, held at The Snapper Inn on Shore Drive, was attended by nearly 200 local community members and government officials.

“The Remmers were selected for their outstanding service to the community and long-term support of LIMM," said Kathleen Prokesch, Marketing & Event Director of the museum.

“They have been affiliated with the museum for decades, however last year they really came to our aid by collaborating on a combined dining package and sail on our 60’ oyster sloop and National Landmark, Priscilla," she added.

The museum’s challenge with Priscilla has been the lack of water in its boat basin, thus it is are limited to the number of sails it can offer from thelocation.

This is not an issue at Snapper Inn and together the museum and restaurant are giving more of the public the opportunity to enjoy Priscilla along with fabulous food!”

Mike Eagan, the museum’s chairman, noted the restaurant’s outstanding resilience in the face of Hurricane Sandy.

“The Snapper Inn, a fixture in our community since 1929, was back up and running within two weeks of being inundated with saltwater and wind-whipped by the storm’s force.  That was a huge effort in light of the exterior and interior damage to the restaurant and grounds."

Exhibits at Long Island Maritime Museum illustrates the history of tough, resilient families who worked on the bay for a living and the businesses that supported their livelihood.

The Remmers continue this tradition of hard work, cheerful disposition, community-mindedness and cooperation.
