Last Chance: Pre-Event Happy Hour for Mitch's Run Tonight

Spend Friday night having fun for a very good cause at La Tavola in Sayville.

The pre-run event for the sixth annual "Mitch's Run" , which will take place Saturday at Sailor's Haven on Fire Island starting at 10 a.m., is being held tonight at on Main Street in Sayville with kick-off for fun at 7 p.m.

The memorial event honors the spirit and life of Sayville resident and local lifeguard Mitchell Cangelosi and benefits a scholarship given each year to a student athlete from Sayville High School who exemplifies Cangelosi’s spirit and dedication to academic and athletic excellence.
Cangelosi spent seven summers as a lifeguard at the Point O’ Woods community on Fire Island. As part of his workout each day, he would run from the lifeguard stand at Point O’ Woods to the stand at Sailors Haven and back, a distance of about three miles.
The walk/run goes from Sailors Haven (Sunken Forest) to Point O’ Woods and the recommended donation to participate is $25, which includes a memorial t-shirt and roundtrip ferry ticket. Sayville Ferries will run a special ferry at 8:00 am for us.
Tonight's benefit event costs $50 a ticket and includes the memorial t-shirt and roundtrip ferry ticket.
If you cannot attend the event or the beach run, but would like to help the scholarship fund, donations are welcome. All proceeds will be used to fund the scholarship. Should you have any questions, please call 631-589-5089 or visit the website.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.

It's a drive-through bank.

I heard it was a bank some time ago, but I can't imagine which bank would run a construction projectRead More so poorly.
