Funeral services will be held today for lifelong Bayport resident Stanley E. Gillette, Sr. who passed away Monday and had been a volunteer firefighter for the Bayport Fire Department for 71 years.
The 88-year-old Gillette served as chief and Commissioner of the Bayport Fire District; served in the US Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and was a member of the American Legion, Smith Weaver Post in Sayville.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria, his two children; Lee and his wife Bonnie of Bayport and Wendy Meyer and her husband Gregg of Texas, as well as his five grandchildren; Jeff, Jill, LJ, Jamie and Emma, and his five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Bayport-Blue Point Funeral Home where a firematic service will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday evening. A religious service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday with interment to follow in Blue Point Cemetery.
