Bayport Resident Among Honored Women of Distinction

Sayville native and Bayport resident Katherine Heinlein is among seven local women honored for community leadership.

 Assemblyman Joseph Saladino hosted his annual Women of Distinction ceremony to honor Long Island women who are leaders in the community and set fine examples for young women to follow.

This year, exceptional women were honored at the ceremony held at the West Islip Library by Assemblyman Saladino. He presented them with an official New York State Assembly Proclamation and a beautiful bouquet.

“The women honored at this year’s Women of Distinction ceremony are very deserving of this honor. I am pleased to bring their positive contributions to light and bring the appreciation of all of Long Island,” said Assemblyman Saladino.

“These women are outstanding examples for young women to follow, and I highly value their hard work in our community.”  

The following women were honored at the ceremony:  

Mary Adams - Mary is a successful owner of a real estate company, Century 21 Adams Real Estate. She has also been a leader in the recovery effort from Superstorm Sandy by using her office to distribute food, water and clothing to victims.  

Margaret Campise - Margaret is president of the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition, which raises funds and awareness to find a cure for breast cancer.  

Angie Carpenter - Angie has been the Suffolk County Treasurer since 2005 and helps to efficiently manage the finances of Suffolk County. She is also involved with numerous local organizations.  

Katherine Heinlein - Katherine is president of the Captree Fleet, which is the largest public fishing fleet in New York State. She is an advocate for the boating community and has also helped in the recovery effort from Superstorm Sandy. She is also a member of the school board for Eastern Suffolk BOCES.  

Regina Jacoby – Regina is the owner of Rubber Sole Running Company, which sells merchandise related to running. She is a co-founder of Women of West Islip, which is a non-profit organization for women committed to helping the West Islip community.  

Patty Vorilas – Patty is a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and is a co-founder of Women of West Islip. She is the vice-president of the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce and has previously served as their president.  

Trish Bergin Weichbrodt – Trish is a councilwoman in the Islip Town Board who has pushed for green initiatives to expand geothermal technology and solar energy. She is also an award winning investigative journalist who has worked for News 12 Long Island, CBS, Inside Edition and Fox News Channel’s Strategy Room.              

Assemblyman Saladino has held this important program annually. In the New York State Assembly, he has continuously championed women’s rights and has fought for such initiatives as equal pay for women, creating a safe and hospitable work environment and protecting women from human trafficking.
