Bayport Eagle Scout Cited by Islip for Community Service

Chandler Varone's dedication to his community draws accolades.

Islip Receiver of Taxes Alexis Weik recently attended the Eagle Award ceremony for Chandler Varone of Troop 329 from the Bayport-Blue Point area. For his Eagle project, Varone decided to build a 25’ x 15’ patio outside the cafeteria of his high school. As he was fundraising for this project, one of his mentors, Douglas Monsell, passed away due to liver disease.

Varone decided to dedicate the patio to Mr. Monsell, and continued his fundraising efforts in order to not only complete the project, but establish a fund to support Mr. Monsell’s family. By the time the project was completed Mr. Varone’s efforts had raised over $14,000.

“Chandler Varone’s dedication to his community and his neighbors represent the ideals of the Boy Scouts and of civic duty,” said Weik. “He sets an example for the rest of us to follow.”
