Spring Cleaning, Naturally

Its time to open the windows and let in the fresh air!

So why let in the fresh air to cleanse the indoor air and then destroy it by cleaning with chemicals? Doesn’t make sense now, does it? The solution is easy. Do your Spring cleaning the natural way.

Here’s how:

Spring Clean your windows: In a spray bottle, mix 6 ounces water and 10 drops lavender or lemongrass oil and 5 drops of peppermint oil, shake and spray to wipe grime off windows& sills (added bonus-these oils repel flies& ants). (alternative: mix vinegar and water 3:10, shake in bottle and spray)

Spring Clean your bathroom: For those difficult-to-clean shower doors, cut a lemon in half, use as a scrubber on the doors and let it sit for a few minutes, then with a soft scrubbing pad or sponge, wipe the juices away with the soap scum. (to maintain this, repeat the lemon trick weekly)

As an all-purpose cleaner in the bathroom, unscrew that cap from your bottle of Peroxide in your medicine cabinet and insert a sprayer, spray on tubs, toilets, sinks and counters. With a damp microfiber or cloth, wipe clean. (it sanitizes and whitens!)

Spring Clean your kitchen:

Take on the task of that nasty microwave, easily: Before scrubbing out the microwave of caked-on particles, try this: in a small bowl, put a cup of water and a few drops of lemon essential oil or the juice from a wedge of lemon. Boil for 3-4 minutes. The steam will release everything from the walls of the microwave, then just wipe clean! (careful removing the bowl- it will be hot)

Hard to remove stains on your grout or tile floor can be removed with an old toothbrush and toothpaste. The toothpaste is a mild abrasive and works wonders! (This also works on jewelry and diamonds)

To shine up your stainless steel appliances, use a microfiber and a little olive oil, apply in even circular motions.

To clean the inside of your decorative bottles that you just can’t get into, mix warm water, a few drops of dish washing detergent and crushed eggshells or small pieces of pumice, swirl and shake vigorously until the residue comes off the bottle; then rinse with clean water.

Have a copper sink that has stains? Use a crumbled piece of aluminum foil and gently rub the surface of the sink then rinse with water. (tough stains, squeeze a dab of toothpaste onto the foil)

Here are a few easy kitchen floor cleaning tips:
For hardwood and laminated floors: add 1 cup white vinegar per bucket of water, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil (tea tree, lavender, lemongrass to name a few). Mop or handwipe (old tee shirts work great)

Stone flooring such as marble, tile and granite: just use very hot water. Cleaners will pit these. And wipe with a microfiber cloth
Linoleum floors: use hot water and a few drops of castille or dish washing soap.
