One Less Blue Claw for the Crab Pot

Snap a unique photo this weekend? Share it on Patch.

I was sitting on the far dock at Ocean Beach, Fire Island, minding my own business, when a distant relative of Jonathan Livingston Seagull swooped into the bay right in front of me, grabbed up an unsuspecting, and obviously very unhappy, blue claw crab and dropped him just a few feet from me on the dock.

Jonathan began eating his afternoon sushi meal without a thought even as I grabbed my handy (and yes, actually charged) iPhone to snap his dinnertime event.

He even stopped pecking fresh crab meat to look right at me. I never felt so bad for a crab in my entire life, and I've boiled up at least a thousand over the past 30 years.
