5 Things You Can’t Do in August

Just a quick list of what B-BP and Sayville residents deal with in August around town.

August is often the hottest and muggiest and most depressing month of summer. After all you're reminded daily that most of the summer has gone by. Residents are already being bombarded with sales on back to school items and clothing. And it seems the pool just finally is the actual color it should be and warm enough to swim in.

So that got Patch thinking: what else is there about August that we don't like and so we put together this list of what we can't do and hope you'll help us expand it.

  • Get onto Montauk Highway around 4 p.m. on a Friday and try to get anywhere fast.
  • Find a seat at one of the great outdoor eateries in town, like JT’s in Blue Pint or Kingston’s in West Sayville after 5 p.m. most nights.
  • Buy summer fun items for the beach as store shelves are being cleared for back to school stuff.
  • Get home from a supermarket before the ice cream carton leaks in the shopping bag.
  • Avoid the onslaught of slugs making their mark on stoops and porches and decks.
