On a hot, Fourth of July morning, 559 racers turned out from all over Long Island to compete in the annual Bellmore Striders Independence Day Run. Three local residents finished the race.
Paul Murphy, of West Sayville, finished second overall with a time of 22:23 for the four-mile race.
Chris Webber, of Sayville, finished seventh overall, with a time of 23:04 and Rosemary Camilleri, of Sayville, finished with a time of 45:42.
