Ferreira Injured But Sayville Goes Undefeated for Season

Golden Flashes beat Kings Park 18-6

In the final regular season game, Sayville Golden Flashes (8-0) star quarterback Steven Ferreira was injured on the first play of the game against Kings Park, and was sent to the hospital with a broken nose.

It is unknown how long Ferreira will remain out. Zachary Sirico took over the quarterback duties for the game, but virtually without a passing game due to extreme weather conditions.

With running-back John Haggart out due to a knee injury, Tom Hannan was converted from wide-receiver to running-back, and it proved worth it.

Hannan scored two touchdowns, and ran for 69 yards. Sirico ran in for a touchdown with 2:44 left in the first quarter to take an early lead, 6-0, and they missed the extra point.

The extreme weather conditions factored into no extra-pointers for both teams. However, shortly after, Kings Park senior halfback Dominic Montemurro scored on a 9-yard run to tie it 6-6 with 11:05 left in the second quarter.

That would be the only points scored by Kings Park all game, as the Golden Flashes defensive game limited them to 5 yards on 30 plays. After halftime, as everyone scurried off the field in a hurry, Tom Dieckhoff ran for 59 yards to Kings Park's 10-yard line before Hannan ran in for his first touchdown to bring Sayville's lead to 12-6.

“We needed to run it and we felt we needed Hannan at this point,” said Sayville Head Coach Robert Hoss.

Sayville's offensive productivity was limited, as field conditions thwarted Sayville to only 217 yards on 40 plays. Hannan ran in for his second touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter to secure the win for Sayville. They finished the game winning 18-6, as they clinch the top-seed for the playoffs and go undefeated all season.
