Sayville 10 Year Old All-Stars Defeat Islip

Undefeated Sayville wins again in an in slug fest.

Sayville came into the game strong with their bats swinging on Monday night against Islip AL with a final score of 18-8.

Coach Bob Murphy gave words of encouragement before his team stepped up to the plate in the first inning. "We're Sayville – we're good, if we play the way we're supposed to we'll win," cheered Murphy.

His words rubbed off on his players as they opened the scoring in the first inning with a two out rally scoring four consecutive runs. Contributing to the four-run first was Tom Witt, Tom Bast, Matt Wallace, Zach Liotta and Luke Kleppan.

Pitcher Matt Danielson started the game for Sayville. Islip AL scored two runs off the hurler in the first inning. Danielson settled down after loading the bases in the first and ended the inning with a strikeout. He only gave up one more run on the day and struck out five batters in 2 1/3 innings.

Sayville got back down to business in the second inning starting with an opposite field blast to the fence by Adian Morrell for a stand up triple. Sayville managed to post five more runs on the scoreboard that inning.

Blake Burgan came in to get Matt Danielson out of a one-out bases loaded jam in the third by striking out two and leaving the bases loaded. In the fourth inning Sayville was back to its old tricks. With one out, Matt Danielson hit a blast to right center and circled the bases for an inside the park home run.

PJ Gunther continued the charade with a base hit followed by hits by Blake Burgan and Ryan Alexanderson. Then Sayville's old reliable 3 and 4 hitters Witt And Bast each came through for the 3rd time in the game with RBI hits as five more runs scored in the inning.

Islip AL attempted to get some revenge on Sayville's scorching offense and fought back scoring five runs in the fourth before Ryan Alexanderson came in to put the fire out. That was all the runs Islip was going to muster up against Sayville in this contest.

In the sixth inning after putting three more runs on the board the game was called because of darkness. Seems the only thing that can stop Sayville from scoring in the sixth is the sun going down.

"Once again an all around great effort by our boys," said Murphy.  "They held off a tough Islip team with key hits throughout the line up. I am very proud of them."

Sayville's next game is on Thursday July 29 at 6 p.m. at The Islip Little League Complex. Come down and support your Sayville ALL-Stars.
