Phantoms Sports Notebook: Football Loses, Cross-country Scores

Week of Sept. 12-18.

Football: The Phantoms had no answer for Center Moriches' aerial attack on Saturday, as they fell 13-7 at home. Both touchdowns Bayport allowed were through the air, including a 10-yard pass in the third quarter that proved to be the difference in the game. Now sitting at 0-2, the Phantoms will travel to Port Jefferson next Saturday.

Boys Soccer: After starting the season with a 1-0 victory over Center Moriches, the boys soccer team dropped consecutive games to Southold and Pierson to fall to 1-2. They'll begin their League VI schedule by travelling to East Hampton on Monday.

Girls Soccer: The Lady Phantoms started 2011 with two tough losses at Sayville, 1-0, and at home to East Islip, 3-1. They'll begin their League VI schedule on Monday at home against Babylon.

Cross Country: Both boys and girls cross country teams enjoyed success this past week. The boys travelled to Penn State University, the alma mater of head coach Roger Kauffman, for the Harry Groves Invitational. There, junior Adam LaFemina won the race, posting the best time a Phantom has ever run at Penn State. The team overall took third place.

The girls had a great showing at the Jim Smith Invitational, held at Sunken Meadow State Park this past week. Courtney Dooley posted the sixth best time in Bayport history in the sophomore race, while Katie Saroka won the junior race, posting the third best time in Phantoms history.
