Social Media Key for Tracking Bayport Olympian's Sailing Races

Fans of Debbie Capozzi will have to rely on Facebook, Twitter, several websites and the team blog as her racing action isn't on the to-be televised schedule.

As the Summer 2012 Olympics starts in full force this weekend, a Bayport Olympic athlete and her sailing team will take to the waters of Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour where the Games' 10 sailing contests will take place over the next two weeks.

The action for 31-year-old Debbie Capozzi, competing for the U.S. as part of the three-person Team Maclaren sailing squad in the Women's Match Racing (Elliott 6m) event, kicks off Sunday, July 29. Capozzi is one of 16 athletes representing the U.S. sailing team.

Unfortunately for local supporters and friends unable to head to London to watch, the sailing events are not being televised by NBC. But the broadcast station’s website does state that the coverage schedule could change and provides a link to keep checking.

The good news is that there are many other ways, thanks to social media tools, that can help community supporters and friends and family stay updated on Team Maclaren's progress.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
