Must-Have Foods for Your Super Bowl Bash

Catering it in or doing it yourself, some crowd pleasing appetizers and dinner options.

Even though the New York teams aren’t playing this year, the this Sunday with football fans celebrating the Super Bowl. If you opt to stay home with friends and family, hosting a Super Bowl party doesn’t have to be a lot of work – plenty of places around town are having for the game. Even if you’re not a football fan, you can still enjoy a good football party at home with these must-have dishes. Try to keep it simple and remember that you can also use low-fat or light options for those watching their diet:

  1. Chili – There are plenty of different options here, and as a host, it’s very simple to just throw everything in a pot and let it cook all day on the stove. Hot, medium or mild chili can be offered, with or without beans, and you can use ground beef, turkey or even chicken for different variations. Sour cream and cheese on the side make this dish a great option.
  2. Wings – Of course you can make them yourself with your own special sauce and as hot or mild as your guests like. Try some new flavors like teriyaki or garlic and herb. Ready-made versions of Buffalo wings are available at the supermarket or check out some deals at and .
  3. Hero – A staple item for many Sunday football games, there are now many options available beyond just the Italian or American hero. There are chicken cutlet heroes with roasted red peppers and fresh mozzarella, Philly cheese steak or veggie heroes. and both have hero packages available.
  4. Chips & Dips – Need we say more? Everyone loves to munch on them but there are healthy options too. Many low-fat dips come ready made or just use light sour cream if making them at home. There’s baked chips, pretzels or veggies available for dunking for the dieters.
  5. Pizza – Super easy and just a phone call away, pizza always appeals to the kids and adults alike. Many of the local pizzerias are offerings specials for Sunday and few also offer delivery.
  6. Cheese & Crackers – Most now have ready-made options available. If you are having some cheese lovers over for the game, try heading over to for some unique offerings.
  7. Fried Chicken – An easy dish to make ahead of time and it can be served as finger food or dinner.
  8. Build your own tacos – The make it yourself offerings lets guest choose what they like and personalize their dinner options. Steak, chicken or shrimp, hard or soft shells and all the fixings make it a relatively easy dish.
  9. Nachos – The host can also serve nachos as a do it yourself option where guests can build their plates with chips and cheese, guacamole, olives, jalapenos, sour cream, salsa, chicken, beef, lettuce and tomatoes. It’s also a perfect accompaniment to the taco bar.
  10. Sliders – The two bite hamburger is a great choice for a party where plenty of appetizers are offered so guests can have just a taste. Beef, chicken or sausage patties offer some variety and different cheese and sauces can make the burger totally unique.
