Matt Leshinger Advances to 112-pound Semifinals

Leshinger and Pesko look to place for Sayville wrestling.

Sayville has two of its original three wrestlers still vying to place in the Division I Suffolk County championships.

, wrestling at 112 pounds, is in the semifinals, where he will face Connetquot’s Sean McCabe Monday at Stony Brook University.

To get there, Leshinger beat West Islip’s Tyler Walsh via pin and Sachem East’s Conor O’Hara, 6-2.

Nick Pesko lost in the second round at 119 to Central Islip’s Giovanni Sanchez, but was awarded the opportunity to wrestle back in a lower bracket and beat Ward Melville’s Rob Kraus, 3-1. Pesko will face West Babylon’s Jorge Barreiro Monday in his quest to place third.

Justin Bonamico lost his second round match to Longwood’s Malik Rasheed at 130.

Sayville earned a team total 22 points Sunday.
