Long Island Lacrosse Championships Preview

Bayport will play Cold Spring Harbor at Stony Brook University at 3 p.m. on Saturday

With a narrow on Wednesday evening, the Bayport-Blue Point Phantoms captured their first Class C lacrosse championship in school history.

The Phantoms advanced to the Regional Finals, where they will see the Nassau County champion, Cold Spring Harbor on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Stony Brook University in a battle of two polar opposites.

Like any championship team, the Phantoms have their offensive stars. Mike DeBlasio and Brian White were the top two scorers, each amassing over 50 points this season. But the Bayport attack doesn't stop there.

Their balanced offense features four 20-goal scorers, including Brian Ward and Adam Berlin, as well as Conor White, who's 16 assists were good for third on the team.

They'll see a Cold Spring Harbor team that finished undefeated in conference play and 12-4 overall. The 2006 New York State champions will be no pushover in the Long Island Championship game.

The Seahawks strength lies on defense. They've allowed more than five goals only four times this season. They're led by goaltender Will Beuerlein, who turned away 122 shots this season. They don't score many goals, but don't underestimate the duo of  Chris Moriarty and Cam Lee, who scored 39 and 25 goals respectively.

Prediction: Bayport follows their first Class C championship with their first Long Island Championship, beating Cold Spring Harbor in a close game, 6-4.
