Lady Flashes Take on Centereach

In the first round of the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament, Sayville played Centereach.

The Sayville Lady Flashes hosted the fourth annual Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament on Dec. 16 and 17 and Bayport-Blue Point, Bellport and Centereach joined Sayville in the nail-biting action throughout the tournament.

On Dec. 16, the Lady Golden Flashes went head to head with the Centereach Lady Cougars and scored a victory. The game was fast paced with back and forth action and Centereach jumped out to an early 6-point lead after the first quarter. The Lady Golden Flashes started to find their groove in the second quarter but it was after halftime when they really started to put Centereach away. The Lady Golden Flashes out scored the Centereach Lady Cougars 18-5 in the third quarter and they never looked back.

"They were a really tough team [Centereach] and we really needed to play as a team and play hard and that's what we did," Sayville senior Marissa Kahane said after the well-deserved win in the first round of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament.

Bottom Line: Even with the Lady Golden Flashes shaky first quarter, they kept their composure and took control of the game in the second half and will look to keep the momentum going on through out the rest of the season.

Key Stat: It looked as if the Lady Golden Flashes were going to struggle throughout the rest of the game after the first quarter but they didn't let the rocky first quarter get to them and they ended up controlling the tempo throughout the rest of the game.
