From start to finish, Harborfields dominated in a Suffolk County League V girls varsity basketball matchup at Sayville High School on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Golden Flashes 46-14. The Tornadoes defense blew away any attempt Sayville had at gaining any kind of flow in the game.
After the opening tip-off, Sayville immediately had problems with Harborfields press, which forced the Lady Flashes into numerous turnovers. Harborfield's Lynn Zhong and Amy Luxemberg did an excellent job containing Sayville's top scorer, senior point guard Marissa Kahane, who only had two points for the game.
Harborfields took a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and only extended their lead to 18-1 in the second quarter with the Lady Flashes' lone point coming on a free throw from sophomore Amy Dean.

The Tornadoes took a 22-5 lead into halftime with Sayville hitting only two fields goals — one by senior Julia DePompeo and one by senior Kelsey Clair.
In the third quarter, a 7-0 run widened Harborfields' lead to 30-7 as the Tornadoes stole numerous Sayville passes. The Tornadoes' attack was balanced as they got 11 points from Kasey Stolba, 10 points from Sara Kane and 9 points from Brigid Ryan to keep Sayville's defense off balance.

Even with a big lead, Harborfields was relentless, pestering the Lady Flashes into mistakes and throwing up desperation shots.
Sayville was led in scoring by Dean, who had 4 points.
The Lady Flashes fell to 0-2 in the conference. Sayville lost to Islip on Tuesday 66-51. DePompeo and Dean both had 9 points to lead the Lady Flashes.
Sayville will host Eastport/South Manor January 4 at 4 p.m.
