Have you ever dreamed of hitting a home run over the “Green Monster” at Fenway Park?

Some little leaguers in the Bayport-Blue Point Little League will have that opportunity this season. After undergoing a huge renovation on all of their fields, the Little League Board of Directors decided to make a replica of the iconic Boston ballpark for their intermediate division players.

Under the direction of new Board President Matt Maguire and Field Manager Roger Brodmerkel, the board members, parent volunteers and Behan Construction worked tirelessly for the last month to get this field completed for the sixth, through eighth graders who will be playing there. On Saturday, May 4th, the League held their weather-delayed opening day parade and awards ceremony, and dedicated the new Fenway Park.

“It is our hope that the new replica Fenway Park brings joy to the youth of our community, for a baseball player it truly is Heaven On Earth,” stated McGuire.

All of the fields in the complex have received some much needed updates and some locations where each division plays were moved around.

The 2013 season is the first year that BBP Little League has an Intermediate division, in the past the division was called AAA and only included sixth and seventh grade players.

To make the field more exciting for the older kids, the Board decided to create a “Green Monster”, measuring 15 feet high, in left field. They laid sod on the infield, put clay along the base paths and fixed up the dugouts. A “Pesky Pole” was erected in right field to further emulate the Boston landmark.

The other fields in the complex where the younger kids play both baseball and softball also received new clay, warning tracks, field upgrades and pitching mound improvements as well as their own iconic ballpark name: Wrigley Field, Polo Grounds, Camden Yards, and Ducks Stadium and the Softball Field was designated Marge Bryant Field.

More improvements are planned such as dugout improvements, a new batting cage and some work on the other fields to further mimic the ballparks after which they are named.

Maybe some of the kids playing here today will one day play in those real ballparks when they become major leaguers!
