B-BP Alumnus Competing in Frisbee World Games This Month

Ryan Farrell was selected out of a pool of 500 athletes for U.S. team.

A Bayport-Blue Point graduate is representing the U.S. on the Ultimate Frisbee Team which will compete in the World Games in Columbia at the end of July.

Ryan Farrell, a Blue Point native, is one of 13 players and seven alternates chosen for the team. Five hundred Frisbee players applied to compete.

Now a Boulder, Colorado resident, the 2001 B-BP graduate began playing Frisbee officially while a freshman at William and Mary. He continued playing through his college years and then was a member of a New York-city based team for several years.

Currently he is a member of the “Johnny Bravo” team. His love for the game came from his years of competing in track and cross country, according to his mom Liz.

“I don't know what made him fall in love with it.  He played soccer for many years, then did track and cross country in high school.  I think this was a lot more fun than running.  It takes great athletic ability,” she told Patch in an email.

Farrell’s team wants to have the World games streamed on the Internet and is seeking financial help to make that happen. Anyone interested in supporting the effort can read more at this website.
