Bayport's Svoboda Breaks Ithaca College Heptathlon Record

What do you do next after breaking a school record in the heptathlon?

Well, if you're Bayport native Alec Svoboda, why not break it again a week later?

Svoboda, a junior at Ithaca College, was recently named Empire 8 Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week after he helped lead the Bombers to a second-place finish at the 2012 NYSCTC Indoor Championships.

Svodoba, a 2009 graduate of , set a second record with a 4,294-point performance in the heptathlon. In the heptathlon sub events, he won the shot put with a toss of 11.03 meters, finished second in the long jump with a mark of 6.03 meters and placed third in the 1,000-meter run in 2:52.51.

This past Saturday, at the ECAC Indoor Championships, Svodoba topped himself, notching 4,313 points in the hepathlon and placing fifth overall. He placed first in the multi pole vault and third in the multi 1,000-meter run.
