Will You Support New York Law Opting-Out of Common Core?

New York State legislators and local parents supporting new legislation to withdraw from the national Race to the Top initiative.

A grassroots effort by parents has sparked some New York State lawmakers to draft legislation to withdraw from a national education standards program, freeing students from what many consider an overreliance on testing and data collection rather than teaching.

The Common Core curriculum is a national standard that was supposed to align student learning and better prepare them for college and careers. Some have protested the program that they say comes with an abundance of testing.

Parents in many local districts have banded together this year encouraging students to decline taking standardized tests in schools, known as "opting out." It even sparked the creation of a Facebook page to support the cause called "Parents and Teachers Against the Common Core."
