Two Sayville Athletes Take Medals at Special Olympics

Meghan LaBelle and Logan Hillery medaled.

Two Sayville High School students, who are also members of the Sayville varsity track teams, had been preparing for the Special Olympics Long Island Spring Games South that was recently held at Connetquot High School.

Thanks to their months of training, Meghan LaBelle and Logan Hillery were ready for the regional event. Accompanied by their coaches, aids, and some of the student volunteers from Athletes Helping Others club, Meghan and Logan enjoyed a successful day of competition. Both Special Olympians medaled in two events: Meghan for the 50-yard dash and 100 yard-dash, and Logan for the 100-yard dash and shot put, for which Logan received compliments as well on his great technique.

Congratulations, Meghan and Logan, for accomplishing such great feats.

The triumph of these Sayville students has been much heralded by their coaches Don MacKenzie, Jim Knote, and Sam Lynch, their aids Sarah Pelligrini and Joanne Korb, their families, as well as the student volunteers from Athletes Helping Others who enthusiastically cheered on the sidelines, fully epitomizing the AHO motto: “the best way to find yourself is to loose yourself in the service of others.”

In addition, Sayville Athletic Director Dennis Maloney praised the supervisory efforts of AHO Advisors Rob and Suzanne Hoss who give heart and soul to this wonderful volunteer organization.
