Talk Back: Punishment for Student Drinking Infractions

School districts have varied rules but what rules would you put in place?

A group of Lindenhurst high school students were caught drinking on a bus as they returned home from an athletic competition. They each received a three-day suspension from school,  a four-day suspension from practice and not allowed to participate in one game.

Is that enough? Too little? What do you think is fair?

Punishment seems appropriate and fair. They (students) need to learn now that there are consequences for your actions/poor choices in life. Now its only a suspension. Later in life another choice may necessitate incarceration.

I believe the punishment is both fair and fitting for the offence.

IME, schools sometimes do not report crimes to the police. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, and I have no idea why that is.
