Super Tuesday: What You Need to Know

A voter's guide for Sayville residents.

Residents will head to the polls today at from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. to vote on the school budget, school board candidate, library budget and library board candidates. Here is what you need to know.

School Budget

The proposed 2011-2012 budget stands at $81.77 million, an increase of 3.87 percent and a proposed tax hike of 7.39 percent. For the average home assessed at $40,000 (before STAR) the annual taxes will go up $480.

School Board Candidates

In this year’s school board election, incumbents Thomas Cooley and Deborah VanEssendelft are running unopposed for re-election.

Library Budget

The Sayville Library Board of Trustees proposed a two-percent increase for the 2011-2012 budget, which stands at $2,694,162. This budget, if approved by voters on Tuesday, will result in an estimated $8.82 annual increase for the average home in Sayville. The 2010-2011 operating budget was at $2.58 million and the 2011-2012 is proposed at $2.69 million.
