Students Inducted Into National Junior Honor Society

Forty-four middle school students were recently inducted into the National Junior Honor Society at a ceremony at .

After Thomas Murray, Middle School principal, welcomed the crowd, eighth grade Junior Honor Society student Brian Walsh led the Pledge of Allegiance. Dawn Lloyd-Matthews, Junior Honor Society Advisor, talked about the qualities it takes to become a member of the society. Members must have a 95 average for all four quarters, and exhibit the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship. Scholarship is a commitment to learning as knowledge leads to high success through diligence and effort. Character is about making the right choices, and demonstrating reliability, honesty and sincerity.

“These newly inducted members are expected to maintain academic excellence,” Lloyd-Matthews said. “They need to continue to demonstrate citizenship by giving back to the community. They must continue to treat others the way that they want to be treated.”

Murray added his congratulations to the new inductees. “Now the real work starts,” he said. “The challenge is to continue the academic achievements, to continue to be role models and leaders. It wasn’t easy getting here. It’s a great honor and a privilege. I am greatly privileged to work with you all every day. This truly is an honor. Congratulations and now the real journey begins.”
