Spring Celebration in the Works

Sayville/W. Sayville Business Council looking to hold an event highlighting students in April.

The Sayville/West Sayville Business Council began brainstorming ideas for its Spring Celebration event at the Oct. 18 meeting.

The Council set a tentative date of April 28, and will solicit feedback from the Chamber of Commerce and others to solidify an exact date.

"The goal is to get people in town to celebrate the achievements of our kids,” Sayville Superintendent Walter Schartner said. “We want to have the students and the parents involved.”

Bringing all these people into town and on to Main Street would also be beneficial to the local businesses. Musical groups, art shows and other school-district related talent would showcase their abilities for the celebration.

Schartner said speaking with Club United, a representation of all the clubs in the high school, would be helpful in soliciting information on what they would like to contribute. The event would culminate with a gathering at The Common Ground with student recognitions.

Also on the meeting’s agenda was how student volunteers are working with the local merchants. The Business Council has been successful in making new connections.

“The community is aware that these kids are out there and willing to work for them,” Schartner said.

The next meeting will take place on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in the administration building.
