Shreeya Panigrahi Wins Essay Contest

The middle school student wins $1,000 for her school.

Islip Town Councilman who chairs the Town's Clean Energy Committee, recently announced the winners of Habberstad BMW's Green Essay Contest: Shreeya Panigrahi of Sayville Middle School is the winner in grades 7 and 8. along with Jaclyn Citarella of Bayview Elementary School - the winner in grades 3 and 4 and Fariha Bhuiyan of Brentwood South Middle School - the winner in grades 5 and 6; and

The entrants wrote essays describing how they worked to keep their home, school and local community green. The contest was sponsored by Habberstad BMW and the winners were selected by the Town of Islip's Clean Energy Committee. The schools of each of the three winners will receive a check for $1,000 to be used towards a Green Class Party.

"I was very impressed with all of the essays we received from students" stated Edwards. "Clearly our young people are aware and actively working to lessen any adverse impact their daily lives have on our planet."

"We at Habberstad BMW would like to thank all the students who submitted essays, our three contest winners, Jaclyn Citarella, Fariha Bhuiyan, and Shreeya Panigrahi, Councilman Edwards and his fine staff, and the Town of Islip Clean Energy Committee for making this essay contest a tremendous success."
