Shoreham-Wading River Schools Must Fix Violations

Code violations stand in the way of proposed capital projects.

The Shoreham-Wading River School District can not receive permits for a proposed for $3.9 million worth of capital projects until a plan to fix multiple code violation is submitted to the state Education Department, according to a report in the Village Beacon Record.

Violations reportedly include dead-end hallways, incompliancies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and others. According to Superintendent Steven Cohen, the cost to fix all violations is estimated to be $1,525,000; which would bring the total cost of the proposition to $5,425,000.

The proposition would be funded by prior years' state aid and at no additional cost to taxpayers, according to the report.
