SEPTA is Official in Bayport-Blue Point School District
Special Education Parent-Teacher Association receives charter at Thursday's meeting.
Bayport-Blue Point residents, teachers and Board of Education showed up at in support of (special education parent teacher association) for the organization's charter meeting on Thursday evening.
Although many told SEPTA organizer Dawn Banks it was impossible to establish a SEPTA, she pushed on, inspired by her daughter who survived leukemia in sixth grade. It was this experience that motivated Banks to bring SEPTA back into the district.
"I am very, very excited and I am exceptionally excited because we have a bunch of teachers and board members here tonight," Banks said. "We are going to make a difference for the kids."

Joan Wabnik from Suffolk Region PTA told Patch she was optimistic about the Bayport-Blue Point community turning out the required attendance, 25, to grant a charter.
"I feel it will happen because there is a lot of support from the community," Wabnik said.

SEPTA is open to any child within the district, from Kindergarten to twelfth grade, and it's not just for special education children: The association supports all children, whether they have an illness, disability, allergies or are gifted.
Blue Point resident Angela Stelling, who has three children in the district, is pleased with the creation of the new district organization.
"There is a PTA for every elementary school, there is SEA-BBS for the arts, and programs for every activity," Stelling said. "This is an area in the district that really needs representation. There are kids in our district that need services that they do not get. They need a united voice. "
Laura Rogacki of Little Angels Center and President of the attended the meeting to get involved with the cause.
"I am here to support the efforts to start SEPTA in the Bayport-Blue Point District. Anything I can do to help," she said.
With cheers and smiles, 42 new members of SEPTA anonymously voted in the by-laws and elected officers to officially start SEPTA.
