School Construction Projects Wrapping up

Three of the five schools see changes this summer.

Schools are set to open to students on Tuesday and construction projects throughout the district are wrapping up. Over the summer, three of the five schools within the Sayville School District had ongoing construction projects.

Cherry Avenue Elementary School is having a media center added in the back of the school. This is an ongoing project that will not be finished until later in the school year, but it will not impact the school. Also, the entrance of the school is getting a facelift that will be unveiled on Tuesday.

At Lincoln Avenue Elementary School, a new media center is being added as well. There was also work on a new kindergarten wing and a new office area. These projects are on target to be completed when the school opens on Tuesday, according to Superintendent Walter Schartner.

At the a new food court is being constructed as this year will be a closed campus for high school students. This project is on target and will be finished on Tuesday. Also at the high school, a wellness center is being added in the back by the gym.

This year marks the opening of the wellness center at the Middle School. "We were able to use existing space and create a great fitness room as we have a dedication to life-long fitness here," said Schartner.
