Sayville Waives Midterms to Deal With Lost Class Time Due to Sandy

The district makes several adjustments for make-up time and will use vacation weeks as back-up options.

The Sayville Board of Education Thursday night approved waiving high school midterm exams and having regular class on those days to make up for lost class time due to super storm Sandy.

There will be classes held January 22, 23 and 24 and January 22 will feature a two-hour delay for ninth, tenth and eleventh grade students so that testing can be held for the government and economics final exam.

The board also is using Monday, March 25 and Monday, April 1 as regular school days to gain back lost curriculum time.

School Superintendent Dr. Walter Schartner stated any snow days prior to winter break will be made up from winter break in the following order: February 22, 2013 to February 19, 2013. Any snow days after winter recess will be made-up on March 26, 27, and 28, 2013.

The board is also using the scheduled conference day on May 24, 2013 as a regular school day.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.

It's a drive-through bank.

I heard it was a bank some time ago, but I can't imagine which bank would run a construction projectRead More so poorly.
