Sayville Student Selected for Prestigous Summer Fellowship

Rebecca Monastero will participate in a unique epidemiology program.

Sayville student Rebecca Monastero is the recipient of the
Simons Summer Research Fellowship at Stony Brook University  and will participate in a unique project,  the Long Island Study of Seafood Consuption-Epidemiology, this summer.Monastero participates in the RISE program with Science Research Teacher Maria Brown. The junior is the first Sayville student to be accepted into this prestigious and highly selective program, and will participate in the summer research project with Epidemiologist Jaymie Meliker, P.hD. The Simons Summer Research Program gives academically talented, motivated high school students who are between their junior and  senior years the opportunity to engage in hands-on research in science, math or engineering at Stony Brook University. Simons Fellows work with distinguished faculty mentors, learn laboratory techniques and tools, become part of active research teams, and experience life at a research university.
