Sayville Senior Athletes' Talents Get Kudos

Two district students' prowess on the athletic field gets recognition.

Sayville High School senior James Giattino has been named the Capital One /News12 Long Island Scholar Athlete.

Each month, News 12, in conjunction with Capital One Bank, recognizes one student from Long Island as the Capital One/News12 Scholar Athlete. Each student athlete is recognized for his or her exceptional achievement in the classroom and on the athletic field. The winner receives a certificate and a $1,000 scholarship from Capital One Bank. Students are recommended for this award by their head coach or school administrator.

Coach Rob Hoss nominated James Giattino for this award based on his physical performance, scholastic ability, and leadership.

A true scholar who is currently taking 8 AP courses, as well as an amazing athlete in football and basketball, James maintains a weighted GPA of over 100 (unweighted this is more than an 95 average) throughout his high school career.

Congratulations also go out to Sayville senior Kelly Leach who as a member of the girls Varsity volleyball team was named High School Player of the Week for New York by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

“Each week MaxPreps and the AVCA recognize deserving student-athletes at the high school level who have demonstrated outstanding play on the court throughout the week of competition,” the AVCA website states. “The MaxPreps/AVCA National Players of the Week honor high school girl players from numerous states throughout the volleyball season.”

“She really is an outstanding player and young lady,” said Coach Debbie Urso who was happy to share the accolades of her deserving team member.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.

It's a drive-through bank.

I heard it was a bank some time ago, but I can't imagine which bank would run a construction projectRead More so poorly.
