Hurricane Sandy brought school district operations to a standstill with schools closed the full week as the storm approached, arrived and departed.
In the Sayville district power outages and repair work were the big challenge. In a note to Sayville-Bayport Patch, School Superintendent Dr. Walter Schartner provided an update of efforts and activities:
We have repaired and cleaned most damages from the storm. The cafeteria window at Cherry Avenue elementary school is boarded up from the storm. All kitchens lost all their food due to the power outage. We will remain closed on Friday.
The SAT exam will be given at Sayville High School as scheduled for those registered. All schools will open with a normal schedules on Monday. Section XI is meeting Friday morning to reschedule Varsity playoffs.
Don't forget to move your clocks back one hour Saturday night! I hope all families are safe.
