Sayville Budget, Election Results Reveal Big Taxpayer Support

Sayville taxpayers are obviously happy with how school district leaders are proceeding on a finance front, as 72 percent of voters approved the proposed $89 million dollar spending plan for next year.

The final tally of 1, 364 yes votes to 529 nays, means that the student educational experience will be maintained, says district leaders.

Voters also resoundingly approved the library and historical society budget proposals. The library budget passed by a vote of 1,318 to 549 and the historical group’s budget was approved by a vote of  1, 372 to 475.

All three trustees seeking re-election to school and library boards went to the polls uncontested but still garnered high yes votes.

school trustees Norm deVenau received 1,315 votes and Maureen Dolan got 1,400 votes. Library board newcomer, Marianne Bastian, received 1, 143 votes.

Superintendent Dr. Walter Schartner said he is thankful to the community for such support.

“Once again with your support, we can maintain our excellent programs, provide our students with the competitive edge to help them achieve in academics, athletics, and the arts, and prepare them for the future,” he told Patch in an email.
