Sayville School Budget, Board Election Guide

Ballot also includes library, historical society spending proposals and election.

Sayville taxpayers will go to the polls Tuesday to decide on a $89,461,217 school budget for 2013-2014 that falls under the state mandated tax levy cap of 2 percent and expands resources on the elementary school level.

The proposed budget features a tax rate increase of 2.75 percent and a 4.42 increase in spend.

The proposal maintains all student programs and activities and adds a .4 elementary library media specialist position and a special education teacher for a second section of the district’s PALS program on the elementary level.

The proposed rate increase, for the average Islip Town home assessed at $40,000 before a STAR exemption, translates to a tax increase of $197 a year.

There are no contested races for the board of education election. Incumbent trustees Norman DeVenau and Maureen Dolan are unopposed for a new three-year term.

Voters will also decide on a Sayville Library budget proposal of $3,644,285, which represents a tax rate of $1.16, a slight jump over last’s year $1.14 tax rate increase.

Marianne Bastian is running opposed for the library seat of Mary Lou Centeri who decided not to seek re-election.

Taxpayers will also vote on a proposed budget for the Sayville Historical Society of $55,145, which reflects a $0.018 tax rate increase from last year.   Voting will be held at the Sayville High School from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
