Sayville Native Heading to College World Series

Stony Brook Seawolves squad includes sophomore catcher Anthony Italiano, a St. Anthony's alumnus.

Sayville native and St. Anthony’s graduate Anthony Italiano is playing in the College World Series as a member of the Stony Brook Seawolves baseball squad.

The sophomore catcher batted .244 batting during this past season. In his 41 at bats, he had 10 hits and five RBI and he scored four runs.

In a game against Yale he had two hits in three at bats; a hit and two RBI in the Columbia game; two hits and a RBI against Iona; drove in a run in back-to-back games against Hartford and Fairfield, and went 1-for-2 with a run scored in a win against UMBC.

Before transferring to Stony Brook, Italiano played for Boston College in 2010. He appeared in 14 games and earned a start against Florida Atlantic. He sat out the 2011 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

During his playing days at St. Anthony’s he served as team captain for two seasons, and was named to the Suffolk County All-Star team and MVP as a senior.

The Seawolves advanced to its first-ever College World Series after beating LSU 7-2. Stony Brook, which has won 28 of its past 31 games, is only the second No. 4 seed to reach the College World Series since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1999. The Seawolves are also the first America East team to reach the College World Series.

The College World Series takes place June 14 to June 26 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.
