Sayville Middle School Student Honored

Kara Intermesoli named the Next Generation of Peacemakers.

Kara Intermesoli, a student at Sayville Middle School, was recently honored by the Long Island Alliance as one of the Next Generation of Peacemakers. This honor is given to young people who have made significant contributions through their advocacy, commitment and service to peace and justice in their communities.

At 13-years-old, Intermesoli has already made an impact on her community. She was chosen as an honoree for her advocacy for students with disabilities. According to the Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives, the organization that honored Intermesoli, she was selected based on her "commitment to education, fundraising and organizing to change hearts and minds and rules to make her school a more inclusive place."

In addition to tutoring students with disabilities, Intermesoli also spoke at a board of education meeting and got 250 out of 273 students to sign a petition to keep a special edication student in her home school district. She now assists in that student's Life Skills program to insure that this student is always included in school/outside activities.
