Sayville Girls Varsity Softball Takes County Title

Flashes advance to Long Island Championships with first game on Tuesday.

The Sayville Girls Varsity Softball team (20-4) took the Suffolk County Class A Softball title on Friday by beating East Hampton (17-7) by a score of 4 to 0, in a best of three series.

Sayville's Merissa Selts threw a two-hitter and hit a two-run triple in the fifth.

It is the team's second championship title in four yeara.

The Flashes' next game is Tuesday against Plainedge in the Long Island Championship at Mitchell Field at 4 p.m.

Sayville is lead by its senior captains, Merissa Selts, Kathleen Maehr, and Kira Karl. In the deciding game Selts drove in two runs and Maehr and Karl drove in one each.
