Sayville Girls Softball Grabs First State Championship Title

The Flashes beat Jamesville-Dewit by a score of 5-4.

The Sayville Girls Softball team won the New York State Softball Championship this past Saturday by defeating Jamesville-Dewit by the score of 5-4. This is the first state championship for Sayville. Merissa Selts and Kathleen Maehr combined to get the win for Sayville. Kerry Keenan and Cindy Griffin hit the tying and game winning hits for Sayville. Maehr came into the game to relieve Selts  in the fifth inning after she was injured when a ball hit her pitching hand.  Congratulations to  Coach Tiffany Cooley, Mike Guercio, and Jill Iorio for job well done. The team arrived back in Sayville at 1 a.m. on Sunday and were greeted by members of the Sayville Fire Department who escorted the bus to the high school where 150 fans waited their arrival.
