Sayville Athletic Program Awarded Distinction Honor

The district's department earns state award for fourth consecutive year.

For the fourth consecutive year, Sayville School District’s Athletics program has been awarded the prestigious Scholar Athlete NYS School of Distinction Award for having all 26 varsity teams maintain a 90 or better average.  While there have been other school district athletic programs in Suffolk County that have won this Section XI award for two consecutive years, no other Suffolk County school district has achieved this award for four consecutive years.

Receiving the award on behalf of the district is Superintendent of Sayville Schools Dr. Walter Schartner (center) who is flanked by (left to right) Sayville Athletic Director Dennis Maloney, VP of Section XI Jeremy Thode and Executive Director of Section XI Ed Cinelli.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
