Sayville resident Lauren Bohman was named female athlete of the week at Brockport College for her role in carrying the women's tennis team to a fifth-place finish at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament.
Entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed from the West, Bohman and the Golden Eagles fell to Oneonta in the opening round. In the next match-up Bohman scored a victory in both singles and doubles to help Brockport take down Oswego 6-3. Bohman teamed up with Nicole DeRose (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) to take third singles 8-6. Bohman then scored a victory in fifth singles in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
Competing in the fifth-place match against Cortland, Brockport scored a 5-4 victory thanks Bohman's victory in fifth singles. Trailing 4-3 entering Bohman's match, the sophomore dropped the first set 5-7 but rallied back to take the second set 6-4. Bohman faced match point in the tiebreaker, but scored the final three points for the 11-7 victory.
